EA Control Stations

There has been plenty of time stood still recently.

We’ve been at sites across the country installing Environment Agency Control Stations (EACS).

The EACS are setup via an E2 survey. If you didn’t know, an E2 survey requires GPS observation periods of quite some time. Here at PPS, we observe for five hours to ensure maximum accuracy. With a GPS point taken every second, that’s 18,000 points taken at each control station!

Whilst the five hours were ticking over, we were able to take updated cross section measurements at the sites – all of which were at gauging stations.

Once we’d battled our way through weirs for the cross sections, completed various paperwork and eaten some grub, those five hours didn’t seem quite so daunting.

In fact, we got into quite the routine – eventually installing more than 10 EACS.

Who knows, perhaps you’ll come across them one day? Keep your eyes peeled!
