Heading East
We’ve had more than our fair share of journeys on the A14 over recent years.
Thankfully, the existence of a McDonalds just outside Kettering eases the hardship of early wake ups on a Monday morning.
So, fueled with a sausage patty in our bellies (other breakfast items are available) we set upon our biggest job of 2024 to date.
The job was set into two parts – 140+ cross sections, coupled with a threshold survey through a village prone to flooding.
The threshold survey involved obtaining levels at water entry points at approximately 50 houses through the village so, first up, we gave all home owners a courtesy knock and informed them of our intentions. As ever, we were grateful for everyone’s co-operation which allowed the job to run smoothly.
In fact, we ended up seeing the flooding for our own eyes in this particular village – our proposed final day on site for the job was a wash out for safety reasons.
Weather is an element that, of course, we have no control over and one day was so wet and windy that the team had lost feeling in almost all points of the body! Nothing a cup of tea couldn’t fix though.
The job took us through a golf course and deer laden fields, with three E6 grade control stations also installed across the survey extent in line with the latest EA specification.
Another successful trip East…onto the next one!
